Project Leaders

Who are Project Leaders?

Project Leaders (PLs) are people who study the box turtles at one location for many many years. They make a commitment to mark and record data on the turtles they find at their site. All PLs must undergo a two-day training and then attend a 1 or 2 day workshop every other year. Once they have been trained and submitted a map of their proposed study site they receive a password so they may enter data into the statewide database called PAWS. The data sheets for all the sites are the same.

If you think you would like to make a long term commitment to collect morphometric and habitat data at a site where you live or work, please contact Gabrielle Graeter with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission at gabrielle.graeter@ncwildlife.org. The cost of the data collection tools is about $120-$150 and sometimes there are funds to cover these costs and sometimes not.
